Newmarket runner scampers to OFSAA gold

Huron Heights Warriors’ Robbie Elmhirst captured a gold medal for the Newmarket school in the junior boys division at the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association cross country championships held Saturday in Ottawa.

Elmhirst, who won the York Region championship last month, covered the 6,320-metre course in 20 minutes, 37.7 seconds to edge Courtice’s Nathan Ackerman (20:40.1) by a little more than three seconds.

In all, 250 competitors from across Ontario competed in the junior boys’ category.
